What is NCLT?
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) is a quasi-judicial body established under the Companies Act, 2013. It adjudicates company law matters including insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, corporate disputes, mergers, amalgamations, and winding up petitions. NCLT has 15 benches across India.

NCLT cases follow the format: CP (IB)/123/NCLT/MB/2024 where CP stands for Company Petition, IB for Insolvency & Bankruptcy, followed by the case number, bench code, and year. Common case types include CP (IB) for insolvency, CA for Company Application, MA for Miscellaneous Application, and TA for Transfer Application.

Appeals against NCLT orders go to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). NCLAT has benches in Delhi and Chennai.
