What is ITAT?
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) is a quasi-judicial institution established in 1941 under the Income Tax Act, 1961 (Section 252). It is the second appellate authority for income tax matters - taxpayers who disagree with the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) order can appeal to ITAT. ITAT orders can only be challenged in the High Court on substantial questions of law.
